![]() The flavors are a light smokyness, more like something got toasted instead of peated. This one has great elegance and weight on the palate, with a fair amount of complexity, but is ultimately done in by it’s finish. This is a very complex whisky if you want it to be. Notes: What a shame this whisky was heading for low 90’s until, like most Japanese whiskies, it absolutely disintegrates in the finish. ![]() I get an almost slightly musty wood note, with some golden syrup, and again, as with the 12, a hint of smoke. Some resinous oak, pancake syrup, cherry tobacco, rich red fruits, toffee and maple syrup.įinish: A bit of a let down quite short. The smoke-and-sweetness of this malt’s nose remind me of the Yoichi 15, but the body is a different animal. Taste: Great mouth feel rich, dense, and sumptuous. Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 17 Years Old I’m an avowed fan of the Taketsuru 12 Years Old, a pure malt (a blend of single malts from multiple distilleries), so this 17 year old expression sounds delightful right off the bat. Nose: Leather, old elegant oak, brown sugar and creme brulé sweetness, caramel pecan ice cream, toffee, cola cubes, with a hint of menthol. However, in most markets, this is 50%+ more expensive, which I just don’t see as justifiable, considering what you are getting in the bottle. The Nikka Taketsuru Non Age whisky is a high-quality alcoholic beverage that stands out for its smooth and balanced flavor. ![]() I would put it on par with other staple entry level malts (Fiddich/Livet 12, etc). For what this whisky is, it’s fairly decent. I find they come across as fairly one dimensional, over-engineered, and usually really blow up in the finish department. In the mouth: A gentle wave of chocolate, dates and strawberries. Followed by some sherry, chocolate raisins, hazelnuts and orange peel. Some hints of fruits like apples, strawberries and pears. If you didn’t read my previous review, I have been ultimately pretty let down by Japanese whiskies. On the nose: Upfront scents of dates, light peat and smoke, liquorice and some atis/custard apples. Notes: Two more heavy hitters from the Japanese world of whisky. Frankly, not sure if this malt is smoked, or maybe it’s cask influence. I almost get something that comes across almost like a hint of smoke. Fairly one dimensional really.įinish: Quite short and light, malty honey, white pepper. Taste: White fruits and moderate wood spice on the arrival, a slight tartness, honey, under ripe banana. The profile is somewhat shallow in depth. *1 Day Dispatch Monday-Friday.Nose: Lots of honey and malt, menthol, empire apples, a floral note that almost comes across like fresh dryer sheets.
